A worthwhile read
Recommended, with the caveat that it is not a gentle introduction.
I have been working with science fiction & fantasy for a few years now and I still found plenty here that was new to me. It is denser than the page count suggests, and I found myself slowing down around the middle. I found myself making notes in the margins, which is always a good sign. Good value for the price and worth the time it takes to work through properly.

An enjoyable and informative read, though it could have been shorter.
I came to this book already familiar with the basics, and it still had plenty to offer. The progression from chapter to chapter is well thought out; nothing feels out of order. I particularly liked the way the author builds up from simple cases before introducing the harder material. The balance between theory and practice is well judged; neither side dominates. Four stars, and I suspect a second edition could easily push it to five.

This is the third book I have read on windows desktop this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. A couple of chapters felt like they could have been merged, but that is a minor complaint. Some of the diagrams are dense and I had to reread a few sections, though that may just be me. Good value for the price and worth the time it takes to work through properly.
Very good, with a few caveats. The core material is strong.
I have been working with higher education for a few years now and I still found plenty here that was new to me. The chapters on higher education are the strongest — the examples are stripped down but complete, and I could follow along without constant guessing. The balance between theory and practice is well judged; neither side dominates. Four stars, and I suspect a second edition could easily push it to five.
Good book. The writing is direct and the author is honest about limits.
I bought this on a whim after seeing it mentioned in a forum thread, and I am glad I did. The index and cross-references are surprisingly good, which matters for a book I will come back to. The examples are small enough to type out and experiment with, which is exactly what I want from a book like this. I particularly liked the way the author builds up from simple cases before introducing the harder material. Four stars, and I suspect a second edition could easily push it to five.
A worthwhile addition to my shelf, with realistic expectations.
This is the third book I have read on javascript this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. A couple of chapters felt like they could have been merged, but that is a minor complaint. The progression from chapter to chapter is well thought out; nothing feels out of order. The writing is direct and does not waste space on filler, which I value in a technical book. Good value for the price and worth the time it takes to work through properly.
